SPM Roofing Ltd are fully experienced in all types of slate roofing, be it natural quarried slate, machine made concrete slates and the machine made fibre cement slates.
Natural Slate Roofing
Slate roofing can vary depending on each individual project or objective, as the roof of a building makes up 40% of its appearance; choosing the right slate can be an important choice to make. For the more traditional look, Spanish slates are the leading slate for choice. This is due to its affordability and good characteristics. A well graded Spanish slate roof can offer traditional charm at a third of the cost of a Welsh slated roof. However there are times when cost cannot be avoided and the choice of slate roofing has to be natural Welsh slate, the look of a well laid Welsh slated roof is unparalleled for its colour, characteristics and charm. This would normally be the choice on roofs such as stately homes, manor estates and grade 1 listed buildings.
Fibre Cement Slates
The more affordable slating choice is the fibre cement slate, these machine made slates are laid very universally which achieves a very flat looking slate roof, the fibre cement slate has improved over the years from its previous asbestos type now coated in a sheen finish it will hold its appearance for longer. These slates are fixed with two nails and a copper disc rivet to prevent the slate from curling.
Concrete Roof Slating
Forticrete Hardrow Concrete slates offer a completely different appearance compare to the two slates above. The advantage of these tiles are the pitch in which they can be laid, they will be suitable for pitches as low as 17.5 degrees. The other appealing advantage is the vast variety of colours to choose from (10 in total). Mixing these tiles can offer a very attractive slate roofing appearance have a look at our gallery to see the outcome of mixing four different colours.
